Lookup Branch County Inmate Records

Branch County inmate records start with the sheriff's jail custody record, but a Branch County jail roster search is not a single online step because the official county pages reviewed did not publish a public roster. To look up Branch County inmates, use the jail information line, in-person contact, written records requests, court records, VINE, and state or federal locators. The right source depends on whether the person is newly booked, waiting for court, released, sentenced to prison, or held by another agency.

Branch County Jail Roster Status

The key Branch County inmate records finding is that no official public jail roster, inmate search form, booking report, or mugshot gallery was located on the Branch County government site. The sheriff and corrections pages publish jail contact details, visitation, mail, deposit, bond, jail security, and fee information. They do not publish a searchable list of people currently in custody. That makes the jail phone and records request process the lead access channels for local custody.

Branch County Jail is operated by the Branch County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Fred Blankenship is listed on the official sheriff page, and the jail is in the same Keith Wilhelm Drive building as the sheriff's office. Adult local custody may include people arrested by the sheriff, Coldwater-area police agencies, Michigan State Police, or another agency acting on a warrant. Once a person is sentenced to state prison, Branch County inmate records move out of the jail path and into MDOC records.

How to Search Branch County Jail Records

A Branch County jail record search should start with a current-custody check. Have the person's full name, date of birth if known, and approximate arrest date or time. Ask whether the person has finished booking, whether bond has been set, and whether any hold from another court, county, parole agency, federal agency, or immigration authority prevents release. For copies, ask whether the sheriff FOIA form is required.

  1. Call Branch County Jail at 517.278.2325 and ask for current custody status.
  2. Provide the person's full legal name, date of birth if known, and approximate arrest or booking date.
  3. Ask whether the person is lodged, released, transferred, waiting on court, or held for another agency.
  4. Ask for bond type, bond amount, court date, and whether Branch County booking or warrant fees apply.
  5. For record copies, use the Branch County FOIA page and sheriff-specific FOIA form.

Branch County Roster Search Fields

The research file could not capture local Branch County roster fields because no official roster was located. The field table therefore records the absence of a county search form rather than inventing fields that the public cannot inspect. For people who may be in state prison, the MDOC OTIS table is the usable search form.

Branch County Inmate Profile Details

No Branch County online inmate profile was available to inspect, so a public web profile should not be described as if it exists. The fields below are expected local booking-record data to ask about or request. Finding Branch County State Federal Inmates

Branch County inmate records split by custody type. A person held before trial or serving a local jail term belongs in the sheriff and court path. A sentenced state prisoner belongs in MDOC OTIS. A federal prisoner belongs in the BOP locator after commitment to BOP, while federal pretrial custody may require court or U.S. Marshals channels. Immigration detainee searches use ICE ODLS and the USAGov instructions.

Branch County Jail Facility Contacts

Branch County has one local adult jail in the facility map and one state prison. The contact card for the jail is the correct starting point for current local custody. Lakeland should be contacted through MDOC channels for state-prison matters, not through the sheriff's roster process.

Booking Process in Branch County

Branch County booking begins when a law-enforcement agency takes a person into custody and brings the person to the jail, unless release by citation or another court process applies. Intake typically creates the custody record. It may include identity checks, searches for contraband, property inventory, health screening, fingerprints, booking images where available, entry of arrest charges, and classification for housing.

After booking, Branch County's adult criminal cases start in 3-A District Court. Felony cases may later transfer to 15th Circuit Court after probable cause is found at a preliminary examination. The prosecutor can authorize charges that differ from the arrest label. That is why jail inmate records, court records after a jail arrest, and prosecutor-filed charges should be checked as separate record sets.

Branch County Bond Records

The Branch County bond page names cash only, cash or surety, ten-percent bond, and personal recognizance bond. It also lists a $12 booking fee for all bookings and a $10 fee per warrant for anyone booked on warrants. Ask the jail whether these fees apply to the specific booking, whether the bond is per charge or total, and whether a hold prevents release even if bond appears payable.

Branch County Jail Visitation Rules

Branch County Jail uses Securus video visitation. Visits must be scheduled by someone who is not the inmate, and the county says inmates cannot schedule their own visits. Branch County does not use an inmate visitor list, but a visitor who has been incarcerated in the jail for more than 24 hours during the last 30 days is not allowed to visit. Staff may refuse or stop a visit for verbal abuse, inappropriate conduct or attire, intoxication, or suspected drug influence.

Branch County FOIA Jail Records

Branch County's FOIA page is the documented written-request path for jail records that are not available online. The county page links a general FOIA form, a public summary of FOIA policies, and a sheriff-specific FOIA request form. Use that path for booking records, jail records, incident reports, mugshot requests, and other law-enforcement records when the jail cannot provide the information by phone. Michigan FOIA controls the request process and allows fees, extensions, and exemptions.

A good records request should be narrow. Include the person's full name, date of birth if known, arrest date, approximate booking date, and the specific record requested. If the goal is to understand formal charges, request or search the court record too, because jail charges can differ from prosecutor-filed charges. If the person has moved to Lakeland or another MDOC prison, ask the jail about transfer status and then use OTIS for the state record.
